General Plastics President Named Conference Chairman

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Robert G. Porsche, President of General Plastics, Inc., has been selected to Chair the 2005 Annual Conference for the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE), Thermoforming Division. The 15th Annual Thermoforming Conference will be held at the Midwest Airlines Convention Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, September 24 through September 27, 2005. Porsche stated, “This year’s Conference theme, ‘Spreading Our Wings,’ is particularly appropriate given that the Sponsor Appreciation Dinner will be held at the Milwaukee Art Museum with its Calatrava-designed Quadracci Pavilion and the unique Burke Brise Soleil moving sculpture.”

According to Porsche, the Conference is recognized as one of the most educational and informative in the thermoforming industry, with two days of technical programs featuring demonstrations of technological advances in equipment, materials, and processing. “Among the 100 plus exhibitors will be equipment manufacturers, material suppliers and purveyors of every kind of innovative gadget and production enhancing device you can imagine,” he commented. Plant tours to four manufacturing facilities will allow attendees to view multiple manufacturing processes.

Industry attendance is expected to be close to 1200 persons, including approximately 50 students from across the United States. “We bring these students to the Conference and immerse them in the workshops and seminars in order to increase interest in and understanding of the thermoforming process and its opportunities. By sparking their interest now, we hope to encourage them to enter this rewarding field.”

A special highlight of the Conference is the Annual Parts Competition Awards Dinner, recognizing excellence in all facets of thermoforming. In addition to this year’s award winners, there will be a Showcase of Parts featuring winning parts from previous years as well as parts not in the competition.

Porsche has been a contributing member of SPE since 1989 and has served on the Board of Directors for the past six years. He has previously fulfilled the duties of Technical Chairman for the Machinery Group, and is now chairing a two year term on the Manufacturing Processes Committee. In 2003, General Plastics, Inc. received the annual Best Point–of-Purchase Award for complex stand alone kiosks that advertise promotional toys in Burger King restaurants across the country.
