General Plastics Doubles Capacity With Building Expansion
MILWAUKEE Robert G. Porsche, President of General Plastics, Inc., recently announced the completion of a 21,000 sq. ft. addition and overall facility remodeling project. The two-stage process, begun in June of 1999 and completed in 2000, nearly doubled the facilitys original space to a total of 51,000 sq. ft.
According to Porsche, the two primary benefits of the expansion are enhanced production efficiency and the addition of significant value-added services. Our goal was to maximize throughput by streamlining our entire operation. Weve completely reorganized the manufacturing process by incorporating cell systems throughout, allowing us to accommodate the production growth weve been experiencing, specifically for larger volume runs. The new space houses significant capital equipment investments, including the latest in forming and trimming equipment. But, best of all, our efficiency improvements have enabled us to maintain our current pricing structure with our customers.
The additional production space has also allowed General Plastics to enhance the companys value-added service offerings. Porsche continued, Weve developed a process that removes the burden of post-production coordination from our customers. Now, all assembly, fulfillment and drop shipment tasks can be conducted by General Plastics, saving our customers both time and money.
Aesthetic and organizational improvements were also made to the companys existing space. The entire appearance of the buildings exterior was enhanced with landscaping, painting and a more contemporary design. Inside, the work environment was significantly altered, with new furnishings and increased lighting.
We believe our expansion is yet another way General Plastics is demonstrating its long-term commitment to its customers, employees and the community, Porsche concluded.
